Yoga for Menopause Glasgow

Yoga is a holistic modality and scientifically proven to manage and alleviate many menopausal symptoms.

The menopause journey has three phases: perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. Each phase differs in symptoms and duration. Perimenopause begins when estrogen and progesterone levels begin to fluctuate and it is the phase where the majority of symptoms are experienced usually between the ages of 45 and 55 years. Symptoms can include hot flushes, brain fog, insomnia, mood changes, digestive sluggishness, weight gain, anxiety, genitourinary changes, joint and muscle pain.

The journey through menopause is often an intense time inviting us to deepen our connection with our body and our inner wisdom. Yoga helps navigate and support menopausal transitions by reducing stress and inflammation. Yoga for menopause improves sleep, digestion, emotional and mental health and cultivates greater somatic awareness, bringing greater sensitivity and balance to the physiological changes within whilst building greater resilience and harmony.

Benefits of Yoga for Menopausal Transitions

Brain Fog: Yoga can boost cognitive function by improving blood flow to the brain and reducing stress levels and brain fog. Meditation can enhance mental clarity, improve concentration and support overall brain health.

Joint and Muscle Pain: Yoga improve circulation, eases muscular tension and promotes better joint function, helping to relieve stiffness, muscle aches and pains.

Hot Flushes: Yoga can help regulate your body’s stress response, which may reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flushes. Cooling practices like restorative yoga help lower cortisol levels and promote relaxation.

Disturbed Sleep: Yoga promotes better sleep by reducing stress hormones, calming the mind-body, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system.

Anxiety: Yoga has been shown to boost mood and reduce anxiety by increasing levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation.

Genitourinary Symptoms: Yoga can help effectively alleviate genitourinary symptoms (such as urinary urgency, and pelvic discomfort) and support pelvic floor health by either strengthening the pelvic floor muscles or reducing overall pelvic tension as required.
